Nicolet Search Team Mounted Unit

Welcome. We are a volunteer unit of the Nicolet Search Team consisting of horsemen/horsewomen who donate their time and equipment to aid in the protecting the lives of the citizens in Northeast Wisconsin.

Our training encompasses safety, discipline, emergency preparedness, versatility, and confidence while fostering mutual respect for fellow search and rescue members, our equine partners and other search and rescue teams.

The unit is an integral part of the Nicolet Search Team and not a separate entity. We are required to have the same training as all other members of the Team in additional to all the additional requirements of the mounted search and rescue component.

Mounted Unit members must provide their own horse, transportation and tack. Members should keep in mind that not all horses are appropriate for search duties. Stallions are not acceptable.

It should be noted that members are required to pay for and maintain their own uniforms and equipment and pay their own expenses, which can cost several hundred dollars per year.

Equine Familiarization with local EMS during a recent field training exercise

The mounted section of the Nicolet Search Team is mainly used for search and rescue tactics such as rapidly searching trails, roads and other terrain that allows the horse to move easily and the rider to be able to see or detect possible clues. So you can expect lots of trail riding.

We have found the mounted section to very effective in blitz or hasty searching, so riders are expect to be prepared within moments of arriving on scene to be given assignments and sent out.

Additional Equipment and Training
